The Varsity Girls Soccer program competed in three games last week. On Tuesday, the team fought hard against Bishop Moore ultimately coming up short, but rebounded on Thursday against a very competitive North Broward Prep team, tying 0-0. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins earned the shut-out recording 10 saves. On Friday, the team was victorious against Circle Christian 3-0. Goals were scored by Gaby Azambuja, Brielyn Knowles, and Bel Teixeira with assists by Bel Teixeira, Courtney Mogauro, and LeAnne Diab. The Lakers go into this week of play with a 3-2-1 record. The JV team tied Ocoee High School last week on the road 0-0. Goalkeeper Emerson Hilgenfeldt came up with some big saves earning the shut-out. The team then traveled to Bishop Moore and played a tough match, but the Lakers showed determination and character fighting hard throughout the game. This week, both teams are on the road to play Lake Highland Prep on Tuesday night. The Varsity team will then host Mount Dora Christian in an SSAC match-up while the JV team plays Windermere High at Home on Thursday. Let’s go, Lakers!
The Middle School Girls Soccer team had a big 8-0 win at home against The First Academy! Kendall Rozanski recorded 4 goals for the Lakers while Camila Barni scored 2, and Priyana Bhatta and Ella Goosen each added a goal for the Lakers. Fariya Hussain and Kendall Rozanski also tallied 2 assists and Priyana Bhatta earned 1 assist in the game. Next, the Lakers traveled to Lake Highland Prep and lost 3-2. It was a competitive match with Camila Barni and Kendall Rozanski each scoring for the Lakers. The team looks forward to a rematch in the playoffs. This week, the Lakers host The Christ School on Monday and Forest Lake Academy on Wednesday. Good luck, Lakers!
The Varsity team had a difficult start to the week with a District game at Trinity Prep. The Lakers played a tough game but ended up losing 3-1. Jose Lopez scored the only goal for the Lakers. At the end of the week, the team took on two Nord Anglia Schools. On Thursday, the Lakers faced a competitive North Broward Prep team and fell short 7-4 to North Broward. Jose Lopez tallied 3 goals and Gunnar Studenhofft added the fourth. On Friday, the Lakers had the opportunity to play in front of the Lower School students against the British International School of Houston. It was a great atmosphere on the Upper Field and the Lakers earned a 4-1 victory for the crowd! Gunnar Studenhofft scored two goals, Johan Dale scored 1, and the other was an own goal. A big thank you to the WPS Lower School Staff and students for supporting the team! This week, the Lakers have two District games as they host Lake Highland on Tuesday and travel to The First Academy on Friday. Go Lakers!
Last week, the Laker JV team played Windermere High School and fell short 7-0 against a very tough team. The Lakers plan to regroup as they take on West Oaks Academy today. Good luck, Lakers!
The Middle School team was back in action last week. First, the Lakers hosted Orangewood. After a great start, the game, unfortunately, ended 3-2 to Orangewood. Will Prunty and Parker Davis tallied goals for the team. The team then traveled to TFA on Thursday where the Lakers dominated the game and brought home a 1-1 tie with Jaxon McCormick scoring the only goal for the Lakers. This week, the team is on the road as they take on Lake Mary Prep, Trinity Prep, and Foundation Academy. Let’s go, Lakers!
The Laker Basketball Program had a busy week! The 6th grade team split their games defeating Foundation Academy on Tuesday and falling to The First Academy on Thursday. The 7th and 8th grade teams won four games during the GOAC Conference games over the weekend. The 7th grade team beat Orangewood and Trinity Prep, and the 8th grade squad beat The First Academy and The Christ School. Way to go, Lakers!
The Freshman team went 1-1 last week defeating Heritage Christian by the score of 49-40 on Tuesday. Zane Fullmer led in scoring with 21 points. The Lakers then fell by 1 point in a close back-and-forth game on Saturday against Boone. The JV squad also came up short against Boone last week, but look to move forward with a home game on Friday. The Varsity played two games last week. The Lakers beat Heritage Christian by the score of 78-36 on Tuesday night at home. Zavien Williams and Fanbo Zeng led the way with 18 and 16 points. On Saturday, the Lakers took on Hagerty in the Hoops for Heart event at Oviedo High School. The Lakers fell in overtime by the score of 78-73. Zeng had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. The Boys Soccer program had a busy week! The Varsity team started district play at Jones High School winning 8-1. Jose Lopez scored a hat trick and 8th grader Austen Tremonti made four important saves to help the Lakers earn the win. The Varsity Boys finished the week with two victories, beating Mount Dora Christian 8-0 and Real Life Christian 8-0. The Lakers have already secured a playoff spot in the Sunshine State Boys Soccer Conference after defeating Mount Dora Christian and finished 1st in their division. The team will host the Playoff game on January 11th. This week, the Lakers return to action with a tough district match-up against Trinity Prep on Tuesday and games against North Broward Prep and British International School of Houston on Thursday and Friday. As for the JV team, the Lakers beat Jones High School last week 6-0 with six different scorers, and the team finished the week with a 10-2 win against West Oaks Academy. Ron Benbassat and Nik Weinstein both earned hat-tricks. The JV team will host Windermere High School on Monday and travel to Lake Highland Prep on Tuesday. Finally, the Middle School team will be back in action this week after a busy three days competing in the Global Games. They will play Orangewood at home on Tuesday and TFA away on Thursday. The Boys Soccer program had a busy opening week. The Varsity team kicked off the season with two victories beating Legacy Charter 6-2 and CFCA 9-0. Junior Gunnar Studenhofft led the team with five goals. This week, the Lakers return to action with a district match-up against Jones on Tuesday and games against Mount Dora Christian and Real Life Christian. The Laker JV team opened up their season with an away game against Forest Lake Academy. They tied 2-2 with Ron Benbassat scoring both goals. The JV team will be on the road this week against Jones and West Oaks Academy. The Middle School team opened the season with a 3-3 tie against Lake Mary Prep and a 6-2 loss to Lake Highland Prep. 6th Grader Will Prunty led the team with three goals. This week, the Middle School squad will compete in the annual Global Games. Good luck, Lakers!
