The Varsity Girls Soccer team recorded three wins last week to improve their record to 7-3-1. The Lakers beat Mount Dora Christian on the road 8-0. Courtney Mogauro had three goals while Silvana Lopez tallied two goals and two assists. Gaby Azambuja, LeAnne Diab, and Brielyn Knowles each scored and recorded an assist for the Lakers. Manuela Zarrate added two assists and Bel Teixeira had one assist to round out the attack. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded the shut-out. The team then celebrated their six seniors – Gaby Azambuja, LeAnne Diab, Maxi Graefe, Sarah Hudgins, Silvana Lopez, and Tommie Taylor – at home against Forest Lake Academy. They were victorious with a 3-0 win with Silvana Lopez scoring twice and Brielyn Knowles scoring one goal. Bel Teixeira recorded two assists and Maxi Graefe had one. Goalkeeper Sarah Hudgins recorded her 6th shut-out of the season. Finally, the Lakers closed out the week with a big SSAC Quarterfinal Playoff win at home against Admiral Farragut winning 4-0. Manoela Costa scored twice for the Lakers while Silvana Lopez and LeAnne Diab each added a goal. Silvana Lopez tallied three assists and Brielyn Knowles added one. The team returns to action on Monday against The First Academy at home and then later in the week will compete in the SSAC Final Four at All Saints Academy. The SSAC Semifinal matchup is against Legacy Charter on Friday. Go Lakers!
The Lakers wrapped up their regular season this past week with games on Tuesday and Friday. On Tuesday, the team traveled to Real Life Christian Academy and battled it out but came up short in the end. On Friday night, the team played their last home game against Legacy Charter and recognized senior Kim Nguyen. After only being down by 3 at half time, the Eagles extended the lead in the 3rd quarter. The Lakers fought to close the gap but fell short. The #3 seeded Lakers are back in action in the first round of the SSAC playoffs on Tuesday taking on #2 seed, Trinity Christian Academy- Deltona.
The Middle School team came back from winter break playing their first game on Friday night against Legacy Charter. The team fought hard but came up short. They bounced back the next day to play Trinity Prep. The Lakers were down late in the game and closed the gap, but ended with the score of 18-19. The Lakers look to continue their regular season GOAC games this week with two games on Monday and one on Saturday. Let’s go, Lakers!
The Lakers Competitive Cheer team had a great weekend and start to their season! The team attended two competitions and brought home second place in both! The Lakers are gearing up for Regionals, which takes place at Hudson High School this Friday, January 18th! Way to go, Lakers!
