Girls XC Advances to State Meet!
This past Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal in Melbourne, Fl, the WPS Cross-Country team made school history. The Girls Cross-Country team qualified for their first FHSAA Class 1A State Championship meet! The Girls Team was led by Maya Rifai who ran a personal-record 20:55 finishing in 15th place. Finishing in 16th place was Gabriella Orlando with a time of 21:00. Kathryn Hey finished with another PR time of 22:45, while Amelia Verbaas finished with a great time of 23:17. But the deciding runner was Senior Josefine Fenne. Josefine ran a PR time of 28:07 as she outran two girls to help the girls qualify by 7 points!
On the Boys’ side, 8th grader Zavien Williams ran a PR time of 17:57, but the team did not qualify for the State Meet. Hopefully, this year’s disappointment will be the fuel for future success for the boys. They did have a great season, highlighted by a second consecutive District Title. Congrats to the boys for their hard work and dedication!
The Girls will now compete in Tallahassee, Fl this weekend at Apalachee Regional Park. The race begins at 10:05 am, as the girls will compete with all of the Class 1A qualifiers from the state of Florida.
